The revolution breaks out in December 1989. The image of the president couple, Anne og Nicolae Ceaucescu, crashes, the system collapses and they are both executed. When the boarders of the country are opened, the world opinion is shocked by the reports that are brought, especially from the many state orphanages where 100,000 children were living under circumstances beyond description.

Kirsten Grarup moves from Herning to Aiud, February 1993 and in 1994 an apartment is bought and refurnished with help from Denmark. An organisation is established and approved by the relevant authorities. In June 1996 the first two children (Alina and Cosmin) both 11 years old, are taken out from the state orphanage and are given into her care.

A house is found, in rather bad condition, however, but it is bought cash and the work begins in 1999. Money is coming, the craftsmen set to work…but it goes very slowly. Cosmin is in the middle and Alina is on the right.
